Causes of Hearing Loss
How do we lose our ability to hear some or all of the sounds of the rainbow?
  • The natural aging process is the number one cause of hearing loss.
  • Noise is the second leading cause of hearing loss. Regular exposure to sounds over 85 decibels (city traffic is 80, a boom box is 120 and a rock concert is 140) puts hearing at risk!

  • Other causes of hearing loss include:
    - High fever diseases
    - Diabetes
    - Head trauma
    - Earwax buildup
    - Exposure to ototoxic medications
    - Heredity
    - History of ear infections and/or allergies
